Texan fan and Ben in the subway.

This woman approached us in the subway because of my Texans for Kerry t-shirt. It was Friday afternoon. We were going to pick up the van and drive back to Texas.

P.S. I did NOT wear the same smelly shirt every day.  I made several of them.

Phil Donahue and a Texan for Kerry.

That’s Phil Donahue on the right!

From my final e-mail on Friday before leaving:

We're meeting at noon, so I better go. Hopefully the guy with the keys to the van wasn't arrested and will be there! Two members of our group were arrested, but a judge ordered the city to release them and 400+ others yesterday afternoon, and fined the city for disobeying him.

Almost all of the arrests were for nonviolent demonstrations (if you stand still or are in the wrong place when the police move in, you are arrested.  They even arrested their own photographer and an elderly man buying a newspaper--well, they let those guys go eventually, but they'd been swept up in the nets as well.)
